Effective July 1, 2022 – Important Changes to Your Health Plan

The Board of Trustees of the Massachusetts Laborers’ Health & Welfare Fund is pleased to announce a new partnership with Cigna as your medical provider network. Effective July 1, 2022, Cigna HealthCare will replace Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Massachusetts as your medical network.
There will be no changes to your medical benefits or the service that you currently receive from the Fund office. Watch your mail closely for new ID cards that will be issued by Cigna (sample right). The new cards will have the Fund’s logo and will use your existing union “P” number as your ID number. Please be sure to provide the new card to all doctors and hospitals for any care received as of July 1, 2022.
Provider Network – Effective July 1, 2022
Most doctors and hospitals currently used by our members are included in Cigna’s network, but there are some exceptions. To verify that your provider is in the network prior to July 1, 2022:
- Call your provider’s office and ask if they “Participate” in the Cigna Network.
- Visit www.cignasharedadministration.com and click “Find a Doctor,” then select “Shared Administration OAP Provider Directory.”
Your Blue Cross/Blue Shield card will no longer be valid as of July 1, 2022. Please remember to notify your doctors about the change in your benefits to Cigna HealthCare. Please feel free to contact the Fund office at 800-342-3792 with any questions.
