Laborers –

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and statewide work stoppages, many beneficiaries may lose eligibility for Health & Welfare benefits starting tomorrow, Wednesday, July 1.

In this tough time, we’re taking additional steps to help keep you covered. Here’s what you need to know about your eligibility and what your options are if you lose coverage.

Coverage Eligibility:
  • Your July 1, 2020 eligibility is based on hours worked in the qualifying period of 04/01/2019 – 03/31/2020.
  • If you are short 40 hours or less for Plan A or Plan B, you can self-pay the contributions for the remaining hours to retain eligibility.
  • For the July 1, 2020 period only, if you are short 80 hours or less for Plan A coverage only due to loss of work during the COVID-19 emergency period, you can self-pay contributions to retain eligibility.
Disability Information:
  • If you were unable to work due to a total disability during the qualifying period, you may be eligible for up to 26 weeks of disability credits to retain your Health & Welfare eligibility. You must have your physician submit a letter to the Fund indicating the dates that you were totally disabled and unable to work.
COBRA Coverage:
  • You may be eligible to continue coverage under COBRA. If you lost coverage July 1, a COBRA election form including the current rates was sent to you by both regular and certified mail.  If your coverage has ended and you did not receive information regarding COBRA Continuation coverage, please contact the Fund office to make sure that we have your correct mailing address on file.
Retirees Information:
  • If you are a Retiree, and your coverage drops to Plan B for your last eligibility period, you may be eligible to self-pay the contributions up to 300 hours to keep Plan A. You must be collecting a Pension from the Funds and have attained Plan B coverage from active employment.
If you have any questions, contact the Funds office at 781-272-1000. Select Option 2 for Health & Welfare and then Option 1 for eligibility. Our staff is ready and available to take your live calls.

We will get through this together.

In good health,
