Manage Diabetes with Livongo
November is National Diabetes Month. Over 476,000 people in Massachusetts have diabetes, and an additional 48,506 residents are diagnosed every year. In honor of this month, we want to give you 3 tips for how to manage diabetes and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
- Maintain a healthy diet. Eating a balanced diet full of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains is critical to controlling your blood sugar. For your next meal, try to avoid processed foods and sweetened beverages and look for an easy, budget-friendly recipe online.
- Take your medication as prescribed. Even if you feel okay, taking your medication as prescribed is important. If you have concerns about the medicine you’re taking, talk to your doctor and come up with a plan together.
- Take advantage of our services. The Massachusetts Laborers’ Benefit Funds provides all its members access to the Livongo Diabetes Management Program, which provides a free blood glucose meter, test strips, coaching, and more at no cost. We also offer coverage for visits with dietitians, diabetes educators, and endocrinologists.
By taking advantage of these tips, and our medical services, living a full, active, balanced life with diabetes is possible.
