Summer Safety Tips
It’s important to protect yourself from both the sun and the heat of summer. Long days on the job can lead to dehydration and heat related illnesses if you don’t prepare properly. Here are our top tips for taking care of your health this summer:
- Apply sunscreen liberally – Our best advice is to apply sunscreen before getting dressed for the day. Make sure all exposed skin is covered and remember to re-apply!
- Wear UV-blocking sunglasses – Even if you can see without them, it’s good to wear sunglasses when the sun is shining bright overhead.
- Limit sun exposure – Get in the shade whenever possible and/or wear a hat to limit your exposure to the sun.
- Stay hydrated – Aim to drink 8 ounces every 15 to 20 minutes or about a liter every hour. On days when you sweat more than usual, remember to get some electrolytes with your water from fruit, healthy snacks, or the occasional sports drink. On these days, it is best to avoid extra caffeine and alcohol and to keep drinking lots of water well after you get home.
